Philosophy
The Library on Wheels for Nonviolence
and Peace, located in Jerusalem and Hebron, offers educational
programs and serves as an active library interested in promoting
nonviolence and peace for Palestinian children. Founded by the
Palestinian Center for the Study of Nonviolence in 1986 and became
independent in 1994.
LOWNP developed a variety of ideas to
explore the significance of nonviolence and peace tradition in
Islam, enhance its practical use at personal, family, school and
also at the social level under violent situations. LOWNP has a special interest in
nonviolence and peaceful means leading to empowerment for social
change and justice.
LOWNP believes active nonviolence is
empowering. It’s presence and activities are helping make a positive
in the quality of life for thousands of Palestinian families.
Organizational Structure
LOWNP has a Board of Advisors
composed of Palestinian men and women in Palestine. A director,
staff and volunteers carry out the ongoing work of LOWNP.
LOWNP is a nonprofit grassroots and
community outreach organization. It is an independent Palestinian
initiative, not a member of, nor affiliated with, any political
party. It is in touch with many libraries, groups and individuals
working for social change and justice by nonviolence throughout the
world.
Political Attitude
LOWNP does not endorse any particular
political solution to the Middle East problems. It believes in the
justice of the Palestinian cause, the right of self-determination
for the Palestinian people, recognizes the Palestinian Authority and
accepts the State of Israel.
Special Programs
LOWNP organizes training programs in
young leadership training, nonviolent communication and street
educators according to need and availability of funds. It continues
to seek new ways to meet the needs for peaceful education of
children living under violent circumstances.
Actions
LOWNP is open to any individual or
group interested in nonviolent action for resolving conflicts. It
provides information, methodology, public relations and other
support.
Publication
LOWNP translates booklets on
nonviolence in to Arabic, publishing then under its own name. It
also writes and publishes relevant literature.
Support
LOWNP at present is dependent on
designated and undesignated donations and grants from interested
individuals, groups, organizations, churches and foundations to
remain open, maintain the centers, drive the van and carry on its
vital work. Both small and large contributions are valued. |
